Grab your favorite beverage and appetizer and join us live this Sunday, July 21 @4:30 PM PST/7:30 PM EST for the Frank Silvera Writers' Workshop Play Reading: C.P.R. A Love Tragedy?, written by Rhonda Passion Hansome and directed by Garland Thompson Jr! We're closing out the 2023/24 reading series with this piece!

Rhonda has directed and appeared in numerous productions on stage and several Zoomcatchers' virtual productions: Brooklyn, Bridge & Fence, Between The Wires, Prenuptial Disagreements, and The Shadows of Love & Light.

Synopsis:

Renee and Robert share a workplace flirtation. Despite her Mother's spiritual practice (that may call powers into play) and her best friend Gail's opposition to Robert's advances, a romance blossoms.

But can this improbable odd couple, an American Descendant Of Slavery and an Italian American legacy police officer, survive the scandal Renee's administrative work reveals AND the racial turmoil unleashed when a brutal sexual assault rocks the Brooklyn police precinct where they work?

Civilian Police Reconciliation A Love Tragedy? explores the personal repercussions of routine police brutality and the authorized manipulation of crime statistics. The play is based on the real life violation of Abner Luima and the writer's 6 degrees of separation from the perpetrator.

There will be a moderated critique session immediately following this reading where audience members can offer direct feedback to the playwright.
